Fill Your Summer with These Great Summer Jobs for Teachers
As a teacher, one of the perks of your job is the chance to enjoy the summers off. You may find, however, that you need to find some sort of work to fill your time, not to mention your wallet, during those summer months. If you are in this position, here are some summer jobs for teachers you should consider.
First, you must decide if you want to work outside of your home or from your home. As a teacher, you have several marketable skills that you could use to work from home. For instance, if you can write well, you can work from home as a freelance writer. This is a great opportunity to make some extra cash without spending a ton of time at a place of employment. Also, this would give you the chance to care for your children if you have children at home. You could also tutor from your home during the summer months, again allowing you to earn some extra money without spending too much time away from your family.
Your school may have opportunities for you to teach summer school. If your school does not do summer school, contact other schools in your district. Keep in mind that summer school jobs tend to go fast, so you need to snatch these up quickly when they come your way.
If you have no desire to work with students all summer, consider other forms of summer employment. You might be able to get a job with the parks and recreation department. If you enjoy being outdoors, find out if they have any seasonal work that needs to be done. Lifeguarding, for instance, can only be done in the summer, and you could work on your tan as you work on earning some extra cash. Of course, you would need to be a certified lifeguard, but these classes are easy to find through the park district. Working as a server in a restaurant or a pizza delivery person are also good ways to earn extra money without working a ton of hours.
No matter what type of summer work you choose, make sure it is something that you enjoy. Remember, you work hard, both emotionally and physically, throughout the school year. You need the summer months to refresh yourself. If you also must work, make sure you enjoy what you are doing so you can return to the next school year refreshed and ready to tackle a new bunch of kids!
