When you’re working in a classroom every day, the last thing you need is a part-time job that adds more stress to your life. Your part-time job should be something that allows you to make money but gives you the chance to “decompress” from the pressures of the classroom. These part-time jobs might do the trick:

Cashier. Yes, cashiers are responsible for dealing with quite a bit of money. But in some big-box stores, everything a cashier does is automated, and most of the items can be scanned in. The job allows you to interact with the public, and if you love to meet new people, it can’t be beat. Working as a cashier takes your mind out of the classroom and allows you to focus on something else during your evening hours, while making a good paycheck.

Janitorial Services. Many people love to clean. They like to strap on an iPod or radio headphones while they mop floors, dust offices, and dump trash cans. Working as a janitor for a big office building allows you privacy to work, time to reflect on things that might be bothering you, and a chance to relieve stress while you wield that mop on the floors. For those who find cleaning soothing, it’s the perfect part-time job.

Animal Care / Kennel Care. Nothing says “de-stress” like the cuddle of a furry, trusting animal. Working at an emergency vet clinic or an all-night animal care hospital will allow you the opportunity to take care of those who need it the most. Running a kennel operation allows you to meet new animals who need your care, and gives you a good paycheck from owners who will be relieved to know their pets are in such good hands.

Security Guard. Some security jobs are high stress and require intense dedication…but there are some security jobs that are little more than pushing a button to let a vehicle into a gate, or checking IDs of people who come in and out of a building. Working as a security guard can give you the time you need to decompress and think about something else for a while – and that’s a good thing when you’re in a stressful position during the day.

Dog Walker. Working as a dog walker is actually good for you, and brings in good money at the same time. Walking dogs while their owners are out is an opportunity to great exercise, as well as a way to get to know your neighborhood better.

Whatever you choose for a part-time job, make sure you opt for something that takes away from the stress in your life. After all, who needs more stress along with their paycheck?

Do you love to talk? Do you like to get to know people? Are you godo with kids, with the elderly, or simply with your peers? Are you someone people trust and love to talk with? Then the following summer or weekend jobs might be just your cup of tea.

Telemarketing. Working as a telemarketer can be a tough job, but you can usually set your own hours and make the money you want to make, depending on how often you choose to work. For every person that hangs up on you, there will be someone ready and willing to listen – and you will have ample opportunity to strut your sales skills.

Customer Service. Want to help people with products or services they have already purchased, or help them make a selection that is perfect for their needs? Working as a customer service representative gives you the chance to help people solve their problems with a simple phone call. You will be on the receiving end of a few very grateful customers!

Public Relations. Is there a cause you believe in and want to work for? Working as a public relations liaison might be the perfect job for you. You can sign up for a summer or a weekend job, or even fit in your work during the evenings. Your primary goal will be to show others how great this place, organization, or opportunity can be.

Online Tutoring. Want to help students who need some extra time? Work as an online tutor. You will have the advantage of one-on-one work, something that is rare in a large classroom setting, and you will also have the good feeling of helping someone rise to their full potential. You will also get paid for it – a bonus anyone can appreciate!

Counseling. Do you find that you always have the right thing to say? Do you want to give back to your community and those who need a helping hand? Consider working for a counseling service. You can choose to work for the online or phone service and work with the organization to set hours that are convenient for you. Your listening ear might be all someone needs to get their life back on track – and wouldn’t it feel great to be the one who gave it to them?

So you’re looking for a job to make ends meet. You want to work on weekends, maybe in the evenings, and certainly during the summertime. But what if you’re burned out on teaching and everything that goes along with it? In that case, it’s time to find a part-time job that takes you away from the world of instruction for a while.

Work in Retail. Stocking shelves might not seem like the most enjoyable thing to do, but consider this: The pay is good, the hours are usually acceptable, and you will have plenty of time to think about your next career move. You can work as a temporary stocker during the summer months, or you can take on a job as a cashier.

Drive a Truck. Do you love the open road? Do you have a CDL? Driving a truck during the summer might be the job for you. You will be gone for weeks at a time, and you will see parts of the country you might not have seen otherwise. Driving a truck gives you plenty of solitude, so you have time to contemplate what you’re going to do about this burned-out feeling when it comes to teaching.

Create Crafts. Are you handy with a glue gun? Do you like to meet people? Consider creating crafts in your spare time, and hitting all the big craft fairs during the summer to sell your wares. You will travel, enjoy sharing your work, and make new friends while you’re at it.

Become an Accountant. You can spend your evenings at the tax office, or spend your summers preparing people for their new steps in life – buying that house or choosing that perfect IRA plan. If you have math skills and you’re good with people, it’s an option to look into.

Wait Tables. You might have done it in college, so why not brush off those waiting skills? Restaurants hire additional people to handle the summer rushes, and you will always be needed on weekends. Waiting tables is very different from teaching school, so it gives you a break from the classroom.

If you are a french teacher, your skills will be in high demand for those who are looking to learn a second language. Take advantage of your skills and use your knowledge of language to carve out a great part-time, weekend, or summer job to make ends meet!

Tour Guide. As a tour guide for french-speaking citizens, you will be in high demand. Talk to your local travel agent about opportunities to handle tours to the United States or other countries. You can also take a group of English-speaking students to France as their guide, and teach them not only more of the language, but the culture as well. Look into student ambassador programs for more information about what is available to you.

Summer Tutor. There will always be students who fall behind, for whatever reason. Your teaching skills can help those students catch up during the summer months. Talk with parents who are interested in hiring tutors for the summer and take pride in your student’s grades as they rise!

College Enrichment. Some students come from school systems that don’t require learning a second language…so when they get to a college that does require it, they need a crash course. You can provide that for them during the summer months and on the weekends for a reasonable fee.

Voice Overs for Television Programs. Many television programs are in need of voice-over actors to translate their shows into another language. If you have a smooth voice people seem to like, you just might be perfect for this job. It’s a great gig to handle during the evenings, especially since you might be able to use your own computer to work on the audio files.

Freelance Translation. If you are good at translating the language, consider working as a freelancer for those who need a good translator. You will be sent tapes and be expected to write out what people are saying, translating it into the desired language as you go along. If you are quick with a keyboard, you can make a lot of money doing this!

You have a great skill in your French speaking – so use it to your full advantage!

Does it seem impossible to make ends meet, no matter how hard you try – but you don’t want to find a job outside of your school system? Consider taking a second job within the school system to pad your pocketbook a bit.

Drive the School Bus. If you don’t have an early morning class, consider driving the school bus. It’s good part-time work, and as an added bonus, you can drive your kids to their field trip locations. You will need a commercial driver’s license and some training in order to make it happen, but that can be obtained during the summer months – so that by the time you’re ready to start the school year, your new second job will be in place!

Work as a Janitor. You work in the building all day – if you can stand being there a little longer after hours, you could offer your services and clean the place up! You can do your janitorial work as soon as the school day is over, and still be home in time for dinner on most nights. The extra paycheck from the cleaning work might pay a few bills and make finances easier.

Tutoring. Give of your teaching skills after hours, when you can teach kids who are in danger of falling behind. Get their grades up and get a good paycheck by helping them out. If you want to be a private tutor, you could get paid by the parents directly, putting even more money in your pocket.

Work in Administration. Do you have great office skills? You might be able to work in the administrative offices of the school. After-hours work might be welcomed by your school board or other branches of the education system – check with your system to find out what kind of work they need and whether you might be a good fit.

Substitute teacher. Do you teach only a few days a week? Do you teach a class load that ends at noon every day? If you have extra hours in your day, consider working as a substitute. You can pick up the slack for others who have to be away from their posts due to illness or other issues, and in the meantime you can make a bit more money to pad that paycheck!

Preschool teachers have a lot of patience. Their job is to teach children whose attention spans, simply thanks to their tender age, are not quite developed. They are responsible for giving students the most basic educational skills that will carry them through the rest of their life. The building blocks of writing and reading, the essential concepts of mathematics, and the general concepts of science are all turned into fun lessons at the hands of the preschool teacher.

If you’re looking for a summer job, a part time job, or a weekend job to make ends meet, your skills as a preschool teacher will take you a long way!

If you teach preschool, it’s safe to say that you enjoy working with kids. If you didn’t, you would go stir-crazy in no time! Take advantage of that love of kids to find jobs that fit your life perfectly.

Daycare work. You’re already dealing with children during the days at your preschool gig, so why not extend that to the summertime? Daycares always need extra hands around during the summer months, when kids are not busy in school but parents still have to work. Daycare work might be less structured than what you are used to in the classroom, but it also offers you the opportunity to teach kids a few skills – and the parents will thank you for it.

Private Tutoring. Are you very good at dealing with children who have disabilities of some kind, or who are slow to learn? Private tutoring for those children might be the perfect way to earn some extra income while giving the child a chance to learn along with the rest of the class. If you have specific skills in dealing with learning disorders, your private lessons will be in high demand.

Directing Plays at the Children’s Theater. Do you have a special knack for creativity and a way of keeping a lot of kids in line with fun games and rewards? You might make the perfect director at the children’s theater! They are always looking for someone who knows how to bring out the best in children. You will be responsible for helping those little lights shine, and who knows? You might wind up being the very first acting coach of an Oscar winner one day.

Photography. Does it seem odd to include photography as a potential job for a preschool teacher? Maybe at first blush…but preschool teachers are great at understanding the emotions of children and cajoling them into smiles. Preschool teachers are also fantastic at giving direction that even the smallest kids understand and obey. Those skills are perfect for someone who is taking photographs of kids! You can capture the essence of a child in a way that a photographer without preschool teaching experience might not be able to, and again, it’s something that parents will pay top dollar to have.

Your patience with children is a gift. Use it to your advantage when it comes time to find a job that is perfect for your schedule and your strengths.

For many months you have manned your classroom, made sure everyone had their homework in on time, paid attention to every little problem and joy, and did paperwork long into the night, until you dreamed about class lesson plans and gradebooks.

Now you have a whole summer to yourself, but you need some extra cash coming in to make ends meet. What’s the best summer job for teachers, no matter what your teaching experience?

Look for online jobs for teachers!

The world of online business is booming, and you have the opportunity to create a nice niche for yourself while making enough money to fill your bank account during those lean summer months. But why stop there? Since online work can be very flexible, you could do it in your spare time – on weekends and during the eveings, even when the school year is in full swing.

What jobs can you find online?

If you love to write, there are hundreds of websites that need articles and are willing to pay for them. Many college professors would love having a dedicated researcher to do all the legwork in finding information for their journal papers. If you love to blog about current events, why not find a job that allows you to do that? Perhaps your local news station has a website and could use your assistance.

Speaking of websites, if you are good with web design, you might have a very lucrative side career in creating websites for others. If code is something you love and you can design layouts in your sleep, consider putting up ads on your craigslist or other freelance forums and get your work out there!

If you have experience with legal or medical transcription, look into the job possibilities for working at home. All you need is a good internet connection, a reliable computer and a plan set in place with your new employer. You can make a lot of money this way, and you can do it all from the comfort of your own home.

Work for an online tuturing service. Many college students are always looking for some extra help, and primary or secondary school students might need some tutoring to avoid summer school. You can fill in that need by tuturing your pupils online. Tutoring services are always looking for a few good teachers, or you can go it on your own and tutor on a ‘freelance’ basis.

Have you ever considered art design? If you’re fantastic with a pen (or a mouse) and you know how to create captivating images, working part-time for a publishing house might wind up putting your art on the cover of a best-selling novel. Artwork for websites is always popular, and if you are an excellent illustrator, all the better! You could find yourself doing everything from cartoons to illustrations for children’s books. Your imagination is the only limit!

Have you ever wondered what you could do with your skills in teaching Spanish? There are plenty of jobs that you could use to fill your summer months or your weekends. Have you thought of trying any of these?

Teaching English. There are several individuals in the United States who speak Spanish but need a little help with their English. You can fill that gap by teaching summer courses in English to those who are learning a second language. Your expertise can be the gateway for those who long to be able to communicate more effectively.

Tour Guide. Many organizations, museums and the like are in desperate need of someone who can not only speak in more than one language, but can do it fluently. Your skills as a teacher and your abilities to speak fluently in both Spanish and English make you a prime candidate for this kind of position.

Translator. Many government offices are in need of translators to handle paperwork for those who speak very little English. You can bridge the gap by working as a translator, and you have the satisfaction of helping people navigate the sometimes confusing government systems.

Tutoring. Many people need to learn Spanish for their job positions, and they need someone to teach it to them! You can conduct private lessons with as many people as you want to handle, and make a good amount of money on the side by teaching them throughout the summer months.

Cruise Ship Work. Did you ever consider working on a cruise ship during the summer months? Bilingual workers are in high demand, and you can do justice to the position. Cruise ships that travel to countries where Spanish is the primary language are your best bet for finding a good position.

Adventure Programs. Young children love learning new things, and that’s where adventure programs come in. Adventure programs offer children the opportunity to visit other countries and learn about new cultures. They are accompanied by adult leaders during their stay, and that’s where you come in! Joining one of the adventure programs can give you a great experience in another country while you give support to kids who will remember the trip forever.

Your skills are in high demand, so use them! Between your Spanish teaching skills and your ability to handle a classroom, you can find jobs that fit you and your aspirations perfectly.

Music teachers are highly creative people. They have to be in order to teach all aspects of music to children and adults of all ages. Music classes are often a child’s favorite subject, and the lessons taught there can often turn into life-long obesssions with instruments and sound. Every day a music teacher might encounter the next virtuoso player or the next serious composer. Every day is an adventure!

But if a music teacher needs a part time job for a bit of extra income, they are in luck there as well. Jobs for music teachers are everywhere – it’s just a matter of deciding which one is best for you.

Private lessons. The most obvious of part-time jobs for music teachers is offering private lessons for students who want to further their music education. If you have a room in your home that works for this, you can set your own hours and teach in comfort. You will need the basic instruments, such as a piano and guitar, in order to get started. Most music teachers have those already, so you might be prepared to start private music lessons right now.

Working at a recording studio. Recording studios are all about the sound, and your expertise will come in very handy. Working in a recording studio allows you a chance to meet new people, network with those who are passionate about music, and hone your skills on recording equipment. Working in a recording studio can lead to other things, such as…

Working with bands or artists. Many bands and recording artists are always on the lookout for someone talented and passionate to handle their musical endeavors. If you know your way around a piano like nobody else, or if you have guitar skills that are out of this world, traveling during the summertime with a band might be right up your alley. It’s a way to see parts of the world you might not ordinarily see, and gives you an adventure to tell you students about when the next school year rolls around.

Tuning instruments. If you have a fantastic ear and the ability to quickly tune even the most difficult instruments, this job might work very well for you. Especially in larger cities, where music halls are constantly in need of someone who can tune the instruments for concerts and recitals, you might wind up with more work than you can handle!

Working at a radio station. Do you have a great voice? Do you want to expand your knowledge of all things musical? Working in a radio station gives you the opportunity to see how production works, how radio influences the kind of music you listen to, and gives you an inside track on new things happening in the creative music world.

Why not try more than one of the jobs listed above? Music teachers have a wide variety of jobs to choose from, and you don’t have to pick just one. Follow your passion to find the music teacher job that is right for you.

If you’re looking for part-time work and you happen to be a science teacher, there are several options for you! While working as a science teacher you have amassed a wealth of knowledge and multi-tasking skills that can be used to further your employment somewhere other than the schools.

If you’re into teaching science because you love to learn about all things scientific, then one of these jobs might be just the ticket for your part-time work:

Museums or Cultural Centers. If you have a good working knowledge of all things nature, look into open positions at a Natural History Museum or a cultural center that provides information about the area in which you live. If you’re interested in all things concerning the earth, consider working for the U.S. Geological Survey or an environmental organization.

Pharmaceutical Companies. Your knowledge of chemistry and the human body puts you well ahead of the competition when it comes to jobs in Biotech or Pharmaceutical labs. An added bonus: What you learn at the company can be passed along to your promising students in the classroom.

Testing and Training. Scientists are always needed for testing new products and training new people. Your skills with teaching in a classroom make this job a perfect fit for you.

Writing About It. There are many journals of science out there, and they will pay a pretty penny for a good article that teaches others something important about the scientific world. If you’re in the middle of an experiment or have an idea about something that might change the world as we know it, put pen to paper and submit your article!

Science Centers. At a science center, you will have the opportunity to teach everyone from young children to learned adults – and you will have a great time doing it. Everyone loves to learn something new, and who better to teach them than you?

Consulting. Many companies need the opinions of someone who knows science inside and out – that’s where you come in. Take a consulting job and get paid for your expert opinion. It’s easy money and flexible hours!

Whatever your choice for a part-time job, make sure it’s one you enjoy. You work hard in the classroom every day – you’ve earned a part-time job that is a lot of fun!
