Music teachers are highly creative people. They have to be in order to teach all aspects of music to children and adults of all ages. Music classes are often a child’s favorite subject, and the lessons taught there can often turn into life-long obesssions with instruments and sound. Every day a music teacher might encounter the next virtuoso player or the next serious composer. Every day is an adventure!

But if a music teacher needs a part time job for a bit of extra income, they are in luck there as well. Jobs for music teachers are everywhere – it’s just a matter of deciding which one is best for you.

Private lessons. The most obvious of part-time jobs for music teachers is offering private lessons for students who want to further their music education. If you have a room in your home that works for this, you can set your own hours and teach in comfort. You will need the basic instruments, such as a piano and guitar, in order to get started. Most music teachers have those already, so you might be prepared to start private music lessons right now.

Working at a recording studio. Recording studios are all about the sound, and your expertise will come in very handy. Working in a recording studio allows you a chance to meet new people, network with those who are passionate about music, and hone your skills on recording equipment. Working in a recording studio can lead to other things, such as…

Working with bands or artists. Many bands and recording artists are always on the lookout for someone talented and passionate to handle their musical endeavors. If you know your way around a piano like nobody else, or if you have guitar skills that are out of this world, traveling during the summertime with a band might be right up your alley. It’s a way to see parts of the world you might not ordinarily see, and gives you an adventure to tell you students about when the next school year rolls around.

Tuning instruments. If you have a fantastic ear and the ability to quickly tune even the most difficult instruments, this job might work very well for you. Especially in larger cities, where music halls are constantly in need of someone who can tune the instruments for concerts and recitals, you might wind up with more work than you can handle!

Working at a radio station. Do you have a great voice? Do you want to expand your knowledge of all things musical? Working in a radio station gives you the opportunity to see how production works, how radio influences the kind of music you listen to, and gives you an inside track on new things happening in the creative music world.

Why not try more than one of the jobs listed above? Music teachers have a wide variety of jobs to choose from, and you don’t have to pick just one. Follow your passion to find the music teacher job that is right for you.
