Let’s face it: For the hard work they do every single day, teachers aren’t paid nearly enough. In fact, many trained teachers will begin working somewhere other than the school systems in order to make ends meet! Now more than ever, being a teacher is a labor of love.
Those who teach during the week might look for ways to supplement their income, perhaps to pay down that extra doctor’s bill or manage to afford car payments on a newer, more reliable vehicle. Many teachers turn to weekend jobs to get that extra boost their bank account needs.
What are your best options for weekend work?
It’s always best to work with what you know, and teaching is something you know! So why not teach on weekends?
Some colleges offer weekend courses and they are always looking for good teachers to handle them. The courses might run for only a few weeks, and they are meant to teach certain skills – for instance, if you have great home economics skills, teaching a class on basket-making is a sure bet to keep you busy and put some extra money into your pocket.
You can take up tutoring on weekends as well. Whether you work with young children who are struggling with math or that college student who needs a tutor for the big final exams, you have a great deal to offer.
If you have a hobby that you love, is there any way to combine it with your teaching skills? For instance, let’s say you’re a skydiver. Do you have enough knowledge to become a skydiving instructor yourself? If you don’t, you can handle training on the ground, under the watchful eye of your own instructor. It’s a way to supplement your income, meet new people and still enjoy your weekend hobby to the fullest!
Do you have a love of history? Becoming a tour guide for a local museum or attraction might be just what you need to keep you happy and give you an extra paycheck. Your skills at teaching will come in very handy when patrons ask questions about the exhibits, and who knows? Maybe your expertise could help the full-time staff when it’s time to change up the tour or offer new exhibits to the visitors.
When you do choose to work on weekends, make sure your position is something that you will enjoy. Making extra money is good, but having fun while doing it is even better!
